Welcome to Orange County
Nestled between hills and the Pacific Ocean just south of Los Angeles, Orange County is a sprawling region of housing developments, shopping malls and golf courses. Best known for Anaheim — the home of Disneyland — the area has numerous other opportunities for exploration and relaxation, especially if you’re looking for the quintessential sunny California. Beach towns provide a “sand and surf” appeal as well as some of the best dining options in the state, while numerous theme parks offer thrills for visitors of all ages.
Some of the cities in the region are well-known for their dining and shopping options, including Santa Ana, Newport Beach and Irvine. Take the morning to go out for brunch, walk along the pier or head to a boutique for some retail therapy. You can also easily spend a few hours driving along Highway One on Orange County’s coast, stopping at Dana Point — a scenic town with views of the ocean over coastal bluffs.

Beaches here are some of the best in Southern California, mainly because they have gorgeous views as a backdrop. Along Orange County’s 42 miles of coastline, Huntington City Beach is a great place to start for easy parking and a nice walk. Corona Del Mar State Beach is a great option for those looking to light a bonfire on the sand, while Victoria Beach offers natural beauty and isolation rather than development.
Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum
A little-known gem in Yorba Linda, this museum provides a fascinating look into the life of one of America’s most controversial presidents. After a $15 million remodel in 2015, the museum now has 70 new exhibits, over 300 items on display, and a replica of the Oval Office as it was under Nixon for visitors to see. It includes the Richard Nixon Birthplace, a National Historic Land mark, and is also his final resting place.
“The Happiest Place on Earth” is right here in Orange County, where the original Disneyland Resort has entertained visitors young and old for over 60 years. You should spend at least a day in the theme park, allotting another day to see neighboring California Adventure; get there early to beat the crowds (and the heat), and think ahead by getting FastPasses to avoid having to wait in line for rides you want.
