Hearst Castle in San Simeon
Perched at the top of The Enchanted Hill, the Hearst Castle is a national treasure. Once home to George William Randolph Hearst, the magnificent estate is an historic house museum and California State Park. You can tour the beautiful rooms and grand areas inside the castle and walk through the breathtaking gardens that spread across 123 acres. Filled with works of art spanning across centuries, a visit here is a must!
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary
Consisting of over 6,000 square miles of ocean, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary provides a diverse ecosystem that sustains various types of marine life. Although the sanctuary was created for preservation purposes, humans are still able to visit and partake in fun, outdoor activities that will give them a better view of the sea life. Kayaking, hiking, whale watching and tide pooling are popular pastimes in the area.
Return to Freedom Wild Horse Sanctuary
Visitors are afforded the opportunity to view rare breeds of American wild horses and burros in their natural habitat on this 300 acre sanctuary. On the last Saturday of each month, volunteers can get their hands dirty and help with various projects around the ranch. Then, they are rewarded with refreshments and a tour of the sanctuary and quiet herd observation. Private tours and retreats can be scheduled in advance.
