You and your family will enjoy a 40 minute Underground Adventure of the mine with one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff members.  As you descend the stairs, you will hear tales of miner’s struggles to uncover gold deep within large Quartz veins. Your tour guide welcomes interaction from the group as you experience life as a miner at the turn of the century.  After your tour, you will receive gold panning instructions from some of the best panners in the world, having won numerous awards in the field. Then you will get a chance to try if for yourself and hopefully you’ll strike it rich!   The Mines remain at a comfortable 60 degrees year round. As a reminder, this is a walking tour. Cool River Tubing

Come on down to Cool River Tubing Company, located at the Gateway to the Mountains and the heart of Alpine Helen Georgia We are just about an hour north of Atlanta, GA. Here you can enjoy a fun-filled 1 hour or 2 hour tube adventure down the Chattahoochee River in the North Georgia Mountains. Floating down the river is a great way to reduce stress and enjoy the peace and serenity of the north Georgia mountains in beautiful Alpine Helen. We have two different locations. Our main headquarters is located behind the Alpine Village Shoppes and across from the Welcome Center on Edelweiss Strasse. Our other facility is located at the North end of Helen at the intersection of Chattahoochee River Rd and Hwy 75. Which ever location you may choose you can be confident our dedicated and helpful staff will assist you to get everything you need for your tubing adventure down the “HOOCH”. Whether you’ve got lots of time or a little time, Cool River has a trip for you. We offer two different adventures that we refer to as our short ride and long ride. If you only need a little relaxation take our short ride. It puts you in a little further down the river and takes about and hour to float you to the take out point. However, if you are among the most of us who need more time to destress and relax, our long ride is just the ticket. It puts you in at our north location which is a little further up the river and gives you about 2 hours of pure peace and serenity as you float to our take out point. Relax and enjoy your adventure by knowing your personal belongings are safe and secure by purchasing one of our lockers which are monitored by one of our highly dedicated staff members. After your return, come on in to our outpost and grab a hand dipped Mayfield Ice Cream cone or choose from a great variety of food from our concession and hang around in our picnic area chatting with friends and family. Don’t forget before your departure to make sure you view the pictures of you and your friends and family coming down the river, which are available for purchase or pick up a Cool River souvenir to remember your adventure with Cool River on the “Hooch”  Cool River Tubing Cool River Tubing

Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site

Twenty years before the 1849 gold rush in California, thousands of prospectors flocked into the Cherokee Nation in north Georgia, marking the true beginning of our country’s first gold rush. Dahlonega thrived and a U.S. Branch Mint opened in 1838, coining more than $6 million in gold before closing in 1861. Today, visitors can see a complete set of these rare coins, a nugget weighing more than five ounces, a large hydraulic cannon and nozzle used to blast soil from mountainsides, film and gift shop. The museum is housed inside the 1836 Lumpkin County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse in Georgia. Visitors can also explore the courthouse features, including beautiful wooden chapel seats from 1889 and the judge’s chambers. The town of Dahlonega is a popular destination for gold panning, shopping and sightseeing. National Register of Historic Places guidelines prevent the addition of an elevator to the courthouse building, so some exhibits on the second floor are not wheelchair accessible and guidelines from the National Register of Historic Places prevent the addition of an elevator to this building.

Stovall Mill Covered Bridge

Located in an area of White County, rich in history and legends of the Cherokee, Stovall Mill Bridge spans Chickamauga Creek. This is not to be confused with the more famous northwest Georgia Creek of the same name. An earlier covered bridge stood here but was washed away in the early 1890's. The bridge retains the name of the miller, Fred Stovall, Sr., who operated the mill complex for many years. The gristmill, sawmill and shingle mill were powered by a water turbine. All are gone now, only the remains of the dam are evident. - From "Covered Bridges of Georgia" by Thomas L. French, Jr. & Edward L. French. See more about the history of the Stovalls in this area. This bridge is a short drive from the numerous attractions in the area and is worth the trip. The bridge appeared in the 1950's movie I'd Climb the Highest Mountain starring Susan Heyward.
