Enzian Theatre

Enzian exists to entertain, inspire, educate, and connect the community through film. Surrounded by weeping oaks, a bubbling fountain, and a beautiful courtyard, Enzian is a unique movie-going experience. For more than 25 years Enzian has championed the belief that "Film Is Art." Along with first-run independent features, Enzian offers a variety of special events, such the nationally-recognized Florida Film Festival.Founded by Tina Tiedtke and the Tiedtke family in 1985, Enzian began as a repertory house offering six to 12 classic films each week as well as the occasional live show (musician Philip Glass was one of the most notable bookings on Enzian's stage). By 1989, Enzian refocused and moved into the then-risky field of showing first-run independent features. Enzian was alone in the community in booking such films, but this bold transformation was a success. With strong support from regional film-lovers, Enzian now often reports the highest grosses in Florida for many art house releases. Adventurous programming, and a willingness to book self-distributed films, has garnered Enzian a national reputation as a trendsetting venue. Time and time again, Enzian has proven that even in a community as mainstream as Orlando, there is an audience hungry for new voices in independent film.

Maitland Art Center

The Maitland Art Center (formerly known as The Research Studio) is a historic site in Maitland, Florida. It was founded and designed by architect and artist J. Andre Smith(1880-1959) in 1937 as an artist colony, dedicated to experimental art. Funded by philanthropist Mary Curtis Bok, the colony hosted artists such as Ralston Crawford, Milton Avery, and Consuelo Kanaga. It is located at 231 West Packwood Avenue. On November 17, 1982, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Maitland Art Center is one of the five museums encompassed by the Art & History Museums - Maitland (A&H). The A&H's Maitland Art Center offers artist residency programs, a variety of art classes for adults and children, professional development for artists, and dynamic programming for art appreciation. The A&H is a non-profit organization funded by earned income and contributions by the City of Maitland, the State of Florida, United Arts of Central Florida, grants, and individual donations. The A&H's Maitland Art Center is one of the few examples of Mayan Revival architecture, also known as Fantasy Architecture in the southeast. The grounds are a common location for outdoor weddings. The art center offers three areas for weddings: the Main Garden, the Chapel, and the Mayan Courtyard. The Center (as The Research Studio (Maitland Art Center)) was designated a National Historic Landmark in August 2014.

Campgrounds and RV Parks near Maitland

Kelly Park Rock Springs

crystal clear springs

This 248-acre Orange County park is built around one of the Apopka area’s crystal clear springs. As its name suggests, Rock Springs bubbles up from a cleft in a rock outcropping and, instead of spreading out into a pool, becomes a swiftly running stream that quickly slows to a meander. The activity of choice here, and the major reason for the park’s obvious popularity, is riding down the stream in an inner tube or on a float.

Wekiwa Springs State Park

Central Florida's natural, pure oasis

"Nestled at the head of the Wekiva River lies a tropical oasis. This is what Central Florida used to look like. Wekiwa Springs State Park is, in many ways, a trip to the past, to when the Timucuan Indians roamed Central Florida. And it's just an hour from Orlando.  In addition to camping, there are thirteen miles of well-maintained trails, perfect for the hiking, biking or horseback riding outdoor enthusiast. The Wekiva River itself offers plenty to do to cool down, from kayaking to canoeing to snorkeling in the spring. There are rental concessions if you don't have your own canoe or kayak. 42 million gallons of pure spring water flow from Wekiwa Springs to Wekiwa Springs Run, every day. The water then joins Rock Springs Run and forms upper Wekiva River. In 1941, the Apopka Sportsman Club purchased the land, which is currently Wekiwa Springs State Park. The area was used for hunting and fishing until it was sold to the state of Florida in 1969. The Florida Park Service Ranger Academy provides twice-yearly training for Florida's park rangers. The academy moved from O'Leno State Park to Wekiwa Springs State Park in 1977. President Lyndon Johnson signed the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System into law in 1968, and this helped to preserve rivers that have exceptional natural, cultural and recreational importance. Rock Springs Run State Reserve and Wekiva Falls Park are protected under the act. This is a very popular park on weekends. To ensure entrance into the park, we recommend arriving early, otherwise, the parking area will be full and you may not be able to enter. Options for camping include a full facility campground and primitive camping areas. Canoe and kayak rentals are available.
