State Of California California State Railroad Museum

The California State Railroad Museum is North America's largest railroad-related museum, located in Sacramento, California. The Museum consists of the Railroad History Museum, the reconstructed 1876 Central Pacific Passenger Depot, the Sacramento Southern Excursion Railroad, all in Old Sacramento, and in Jamestown in the Sierra Foothills, Railtown 1897, which showcases steam locomotives and 19th century trains. Future plans call for the addition of the Rail Technology Museum in two buildings in the historic Southern Pacific railyards, just north of the Railroad History Museum.

California State Capitol & Museum

The California State Capitol is the seat of the government of California, housing the chambers of the state legislature and the office of the governor in Sacramento, California. The Neoclassical structure was completed between 1861 and 1874 at the west end of Capitol Park, which is framed by L Street to the north, N Street to the south, 10th Street to the west, and 15th Street to the east. The Capitol Art Program maintains the Capitol's collected works including: the Permanent Collection, the Loan Collection, the Biennial Senate Contemporary Art Collection, and an extensive antiques and statuary collection located throughout the Historic West Wing and East Annex of the Capitol. The decision to restore the historic Capitol created one of the largest restoration projects in California's history, artisans relearned arts long forgotten, the Senate and Assembly Chambers would regain their glory and the building was incorporated with modern technology while maintaining the splendor of the Capitol's original appearance.

Crocker Art Museum

The first public art museum founded in the Western United States, the Crocker Art Museum was established in 1885 and is now one of the leading art museums in California. The Crocker serves as the primary regional resource for the study and appreciation of fine art. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions and programs to complement its collections of Californian art, works on paper, European art, international ceramics, photography, Asian art, and African and Oceanic art. The Crocker Art Museum is the only museum in the Sacramento region accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a recognition given to less than 800 of the nation's 17,500 museums. AAM accreditation certifies that a museum operates according to standards set forth by the museum profession, manages its collections responsibly and provides quality service to the public.

Campgrounds and RV Parks near Sacramento Valley

Colusa Sacramento River State Recreation Area

Fish on the mighty Sacremento

This area offers visitors campsites, picnic sites, and a launch ramp for small boats. Riverbank cottonwoods and willows shelter one of the finest fishing stretches in California, with king salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout and striped bass some of the catches. The river is on a major migratory route for birds of the Pacific flyway and provides home to an amazing number of species. The River Patwin Indian tribe once lived nearby the area and in 1872 John Muir camped near what is now the park. Fishing for king salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout and striped bass is excellent in this stretch of the Sacramento River, California's largest river. Anglers also take consistent catches of catfish, shad, carp and sturgeon. The fall run of salmon comes in September and October. You can also catch them from November through January, though the fishing during high water isn't as satisfying. The spring run is April through June. The steelhead run is from late August to end of October; striped bass from April through June; and shad from mid-May to mid-June. Bank fishing is easiest from the river's northwest bank, outside the park, or you can take the trail to the parks gravel bar-beach area. You'll be most successful if you fish by boat, searching out the deep holes in the river bed.
