State Of California California State Railroad Museum

The California State Railroad Museum is North America's largest railroad-related museum, located in Sacramento, California. The Museum consists of the Railroad History Museum, the reconstructed 1876 Central Pacific Passenger Depot, the Sacramento Southern Excursion Railroad, all in Old Sacramento, and in Jamestown in the Sierra Foothills, Railtown 1897, which showcases steam locomotives and 19th century trains. Future plans call for the addition of the Rail Technology Museum in two buildings in the historic Southern Pacific railyards, just north of the Railroad History Museum.

Crocker Art Museum

The first public art museum founded in the Western United States, the Crocker Art Museum was established in 1885 and is now one of the leading art museums in California. The Crocker serves as the primary regional resource for the study and appreciation of fine art. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions and programs to complement its collections of Californian art, works on paper, European art, international ceramics, photography, Asian art, and African and Oceanic art. The Crocker Art Museum is the only museum in the Sacramento region accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a recognition given to less than 800 of the nation's 17,500 museums. AAM accreditation certifies that a museum operates according to standards set forth by the museum profession, manages its collections responsibly and provides quality service to the public.

Folsom City Zoo

Since 1963, this small unique California zoo has been providing sanctuary to some very special animals. All are non-releasable. Many were raised, and rejected, as wild pets. Others were injured or orphaned in the wild. Most are native to North America. All have names and personalities, and their individual stories are posted at the exhibits, along with factual, up-to-date information about their species. The distinctive educational focus of the zoo promotes responsible and appropriate behavior toward all animals. The zoo teaches about common and uncommon animals, both wild and domestic, and includes those in between, like feral pigs and wolf-dog hybrids. Zoo programs stress that wild animals don’t make good pets.
