We don't want to give away all the surprises. Nor can we predict what your family will come up with on your own. But, we promise to give you enough of a taste of the itinerary to spark your excitement. Take a motorhome, and you'll have the freedom to go wherever you want, without worrying about where you'll sleep! Plan your trip with Mighway, and let the journey unfold.
Day One and Two
On day one, a two to three-hour drive takes you to Waitomo, with its magical rolling green hills reminiscent of fairy tale fantasies. Counting the area’s numerous sheep above ground or traveling below to view the stalactites and glowworms of the Waitomo Caves will dazzle family members of all ages.
But, there is no rush to see the sights. Day two offers more time to explore before your two-hour drive to the lakeside town of Taupo. This is no ordinary lake. This volcanic remnant hosts water-based activities with panoramic views of Tongariro National Park and its host of volcanoes.
Day Three, Four, and Five
Day three offers more time to take in the gorgeous views near Taupo, experience the power of the Huka Falls or grab a fishing pole or kayak. Jet boat rides on the Waikato River are a family favorite.
A one-hour trip to Rotorua brings you a cultural treat on day four. Witness bursting geysers, boiling mud pits and natural steam baths. A Maori cultural performance or historical tour with a local meal (a hangi) completes the day.
Touring Hobbiton village including its working sheep farm and amazing Kaimai Range views is a great way to spend day five. Keep your eyes open for left behind hobbit holes from the Hobbiton movie set, and listen to the guide for plenty of movie trivia.
Day Six and Seven
Day six begins at Coromandel Peninsula and its famous gem, Hahei Beach. A walk to Cathedral Cove reveals a natural archway. And, Hot Water Beach offers a natural hot tub experience if you are willing to dig a little.
The week wraps up in Coromandel Village and Thames. Riding the Driving Creek Railway takes you on an adventurous journey up the 165-metre summit with plenty of artful and forest sites along the way. A peaceful night spent along the peninsula leaves you a two to three-hour drive to Auckland in the morning.
As you travel back to Auckland in your Mighway motorhome on day eight, plenty of memories will dance in your head, guaranteed. It will not be long before the kids are yelling once again, ROAD TRIP!
