Flaxmere is a suburb in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located north-west of Hastings, and is regarded as a suburb of its larger neighbour. Flaxmere has a population of 9,408 according to the 2013 Census. It is located in the Hastings Metropolitan Area. It is also known by the Maori name of Paharakeke. Areas within Flaxmere include Flaxmere East, Kingsley-Chatham, Lochain and Woolwich, according to the census units of Statistics NZ. Flaxmere was built to cater to the housing demand of Hastings. Flaxmere was intended to be an upper-middle class subdivision but because land was subdivided into smaller lots it turned into a low income neighbourhood. Flaxmere has one of the highest social deprivation index values of the Napier-Hastings metropolitan area, being exceeded only by the suburbs of Camberley and Maraenui. The suburb is typical of modern suburbs with a long avenue (Flaxmere Avenue) running its length with curved streets and cul-de-sacs radiating from it. Parks and reserves are abundant and Flaxmere has primary schools and a high school (Flaxmere College) which was formed from the old Flaxmere Intermediate School. There is multiple primary schools including Peterhead Primary, Flaxmere Primary on Irongate Primary. It has a small shopping centre with a supermarket, petrol station, post office, bakery, video store, butchery, indoor rock climbing centre, and various other businesses offering necessities and/or leisure. Other amenities include a library, police station, several churches and an indoor swimming complex (Flaxmere Waterworld).

Morere Hot Springs

A treat not to be missed – gorgeous hot and cold springs set amid 364 hectares of rainforest. Rare in the world of hot springs, the Morere Springs produce 250,000 litres a day of hot ancient sea water. Known for its therapeutic values, the water is piped to a series of public and private hot pools. It is definitely worth taking a walk on any of the various walks in the Morere Scenic Reserve, from 10-minute walks up to three hours. Especially famous for its nikau palms, the dense virgin rainforest is home to a wide range of native birds.

Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park

The Holiday park is terraced to make the most of the fantastic views – listen to the sound of the waves and the birds sing.

Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park is situated 30 min north of Napier 12kms off SH2 Napier Wairoa Road (take Tangoio Road turnoff)..The holiday park is accessed through a farm with good access for large vehicles and overlooks Waipatiki Beach – a golden sandy beach just 300m away. The park is terraced to make the most of the beautiful views.

The sandy beach offers swimming, surfing, fishing, diving with the fresh water stream being popular with younger children. Small boats can be launched from the beach. The many coastal and bush walks are well worth exploring with kahikatea trees, Nikau palms and a redwood forest. There are many additional walks and cycleways nearby. Enjoy the numerous beautiful native birds including Tui, Kereru and Bellbirds.

Located only 6km from Napier by car or 30 minutes on the fantastic Hawke's Bay cycle ways, our holiday park has been designed with motorhomes, campervans, caravans and tents in mind. Our park is small and intimate but with large spacious sites.

Hawke's Bay Holiday Park is very well positioned to take advantage of all that Hawke's Bay has to offer.

We are in walking distance of the fantastic Crab Farm Winery for which we have a reserved table for our guests who wish to dine there on Friday evenings, when they are open for dinner. We are only 5-minutes drive away from the famous Mission Estate Winery and Church Road Winery.

Directly over the road we have access to tennis courts, lawn bowls, pistol shooting and a children's playground.

Summer fruit and produce stalls, supplying Hawke's Bay's finest, are in walking distance just north of us.

There is a surf casting beach 300 metres away that is lovely for either a leisurely morning and evening walk or a jog.
