The veges are fresh and the snow’s even fresher in the mountain district of Ruapehu. Located in the central North Island, Ruapehu is home to stunning geographic features and is a must on any New Zealand itinerary. Hit the slopes over winter and the trails over summer. Mighway recommends a minimum of 2-3 days here. There's lots to do on your way there, from Hobbits to Glow worms to Icecream. At Mt Ruapehu, you can spend your days on New Zealand's largest active volcano learning to ski or snowboard in Whakapapa Ski Field. Hikers, botanists and regular tourists can also enjoy the breathtaking views on the mountain, as well as those in the wider Tongariro National Park. Try out the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and experience its rugged and diverse landscape, volcanic peaks, and lush valleys.
Backed by thl and their combined decades of experience in the tourism and motorhome industry, Mighway allows you to rent your vehicle to discerning travellers so you can earn money and share the experience. Mighway offers two levels of service to best suit your needs, Mighway's Local and Managed services. Simply choose your level of service - whether it's the hands-on Local service, or hands-off Managed - and we'll take good care of the rest.
LEARN MOREWhether you’re after some cliff diving or just want a nice place to paddle around in Taupo pools, there is plenty on offer. If you’re visiting in winter at least dip your toe, or take advantage of the natural Taupo attractions such as warm thermal waters dotted around the lake.
The lakefront in town is easily accessible, just jump in wherever you like. In summer the lakefront is packed with both locals and tourists so take a book, pull up a towel and spend the day. Don’t forget the sunblock!
Head out a bit further afield to Kinloch for a different thing to do in Taupo, a 15-minute drive east of Taupo. The water out there is beautifully clear and the pontoon is great for the kids (and big kids!) to practice dive bombs. If you walk left along the beach you’ll find Kinloch’s famous jumping rocks, just look for the local kids splashing around.
Whakaipo Bay is a little more secluded, perfect if you are looking for some time alone or a romantic picnic.
For another Taupo activity take the plunge into the fresh blue water of Bulli Point, located on State Highway 1 towards Turangi. There are three ledges to jump from, the highest being seven metres. This is a very busy road so make sure to park safely. There is a gravel car park just south of Bulli Point.
Experience New Zealand's best half day rafting adventure - The most popular trip - You'll raft over 50 plus exciting rapids, through a beautiful volcanic gorge. Explore a hidden waterfall (jump optional, weather permitting) & enjoy on river hot chocolate & snacks. Afterwards, refuel with your complimentary hot kai (food) & view your trip photo's.
We invite you to make yourself at home on either of our lovingly restored two classic white sailing yachts.
Our skipper and crew will make your sailing trip with Sail Barbary, Lake Taupo's quietest cruise boats, enjoyable and memorable. Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves. You can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view.
We’re equipped for all conditions. If the wind dies down, Barbary’s quiet, eco-friendly electric engine kicks in. Or, if you prefer a real sailing adventure, then come aboard when the wind is up and enjoy sailing without salty sea spray and noisy outboard motors.
You are even welcome to B.Y.O. (Bring Your Own) prepared food and beverages. This is an experience not to be missed!

Nothing comes close to the sheer natural beauty of the Lake Taupo region. Located in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand the lake is only a small part of the Central Plateau. This plateau also contains three large mountains boasting three unique skifields.
The trout fishing is considered some of the best in the world. Just two kilometres from our Holiday Park is the well known Tongariro river, where many very large brown and rainbow trout have been outwitted.
Turangi is the gateway to the Tongariro National Park, the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing and the Kaimanawa Ranges – We make a great base for the Tongariro Alpine crossing – transport is available right from our front door.
Turangi is the place to be all year round, skiing in the winter, boating and swimming in the summer, and of course fishing all year round.
Large groups are not a problem, and we are an ideal school camp for anytime of the year.
