LEARN MOREWhether you’re after some cliff diving or just want a nice place to paddle around in Taupo pools, there is plenty on offer. If you’re visiting in winter at least dip your toe, or take advantage of the natural Taupo attractions such as warm thermal waters dotted around the lake.
The lakefront in town is easily accessible, just jump in wherever you like. In summer the lakefront is packed with both locals and tourists so take a book, pull up a towel and spend the day. Don’t forget the sunblock!
Head out a bit further afield to Kinloch for a different thing to do in Taupo, a 15-minute drive east of Taupo. The water out there is beautifully clear and the pontoon is great for the kids (and big kids!) to practice dive bombs. If you walk left along the beach you’ll find Kinloch’s famous jumping rocks, just look for the local kids splashing around.
Whakaipo Bay is a little more secluded, perfect if you are looking for some time alone or a romantic picnic.
For another Taupo activity take the plunge into the fresh blue water of Bulli Point, located on State Highway 1 towards Turangi. There are three ledges to jump from, the highest being seven metres. This is a very busy road so make sure to park safely. There is a gravel car park just south of Bulli Point.
We invite you to make yourself at home on either of our lovingly restored two classic white sailing yachts.
Our skipper and crew will make your sailing trip with Sail Barbary, Lake Taupo's quietest cruise boats, enjoyable and memorable. Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves. You can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view.
We’re equipped for all conditions. If the wind dies down, Barbary’s quiet, eco-friendly electric engine kicks in. Or, if you prefer a real sailing adventure, then come aboard when the wind is up and enjoy sailing without salty sea spray and noisy outboard motors.
You are even welcome to B.Y.O. (Bring Your Own) prepared food and beverages. This is an experience not to be missed!
