There's plenty of different things to do in Rotorua, for all interests! You can relax in the healing waters of a hot spring, get pampered in a spa, or explore the geothermal landscape! For a taste of local culture and history visit Whakarewarewa Maori Village, or take a walk through the majestic redwood forests!
Home of the internationally famous Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and Hobbiton movie set, you’ll find plenty to do. There's great scenic walks to do around the falls and in the caves. In nearby Hamilton you can visit the beautiful Hamilton Gardens, or stop in Pokeno for some icecream that's world famous (in New Zealand).
Visit Kaikoura for a spectacular whale-watching trip, and don't be surprised if you see dolphins and seals too! You learn about and experience the local culture in the Kaikoura Museum or on a Maori tour, or even go on a scenic walk. There's also the opportunity to leave behind a momento of your visit and plant a native tree!

Events in Auckland
The Auckland Chinese Community Centre Inc has been organising an annual celebration for over 30 years. The 2018 Spring Festival and Market Day will be held on February 3rd, featuring plenty entertainment for the expected 30,000 attendees. You can expect a over 200 stalls with food and crafts, and plenty of cultural performances.
The 2018 Auckland Lantern Festival is another famous annual event, and will be held from Thursday 1 – Sunday 4 March at the Auckland Domain. Be entertained and dazzled by hundreds of handmade Chinese lanterns, music and dance performances, traditional festivities, Chinese art and more – there's a range of activities for all ages.
Sky City Auckland has been celebrating Chinese New Year for 21 years, and the Year of the Dog is no exception. The Sky Tower will also glow red and gold in celebration for two weeks, and there will be free cultural performances at Sky City.
CNY Festival in Wellington
Chinese New Year is celebrated in style in Wellington, with their annual Chinese New Year Festival. The Asian Events Trust, has been organising this popular event for over 12 years, completing a full cycle of the Zodiac.
You'll see performing arts, a Beijing meets Wellington football game and a spectacular fireworks display at the Festival, and plenty more.
On the main festival day, there will be an Asian market, a street parade and plenty of cultural entertainment all centred on Wellington’s picturesque waterfront.
CNY Stargazing - Canterbury
Experience Chinese New Year from a different perspective this year, with Earth and Sky's famous stargazing tours at Lake Tekapo in the South Island.
You'll be able to see Jupiter shining bright, a very important planet in Chinese culture. So stop in Canterbury for some stargazing and a chance to see the nightsky without all the light pollution.
Jupiter takes 12 years to complete it's full orbit around the sun, and this observation by Ancient Chinese astronomers which led to the development of the 12 year Zodiac.
