Thinking about hiring a campervan while you are visiting New Zealand? One of the most beautiful regions that you can visit while you are camping across the North Island is Taranaki. Taranaki is the perfect combination of both mountains and beaches, named after Mount Taranaki, the major volcano in the area.

Overall, Taranaki has lots of fun things that you and your family can do while you are in the area. Let’s take a look at some of our favourite things to do while you are camping in Taranaki.

Take a Hike

If you enjoy being outdoors, Taranaki is the right place for you. We highly recommend taking hikes and walks around the area so that you can soak in the natural beauty and the variety of landscapes that surround you.

You can actually hike to the top of Mount Taranaki. From the top, you can get a breathtaking view of the entire region. If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, you can hike through Egmont National Park to Dawson Falls. In a quick 10-15 minute walk, you can be overlooking one of the most astounding waterfalls in Taranaki.

Go to the Beach

Whether you want to relax in the sand, take a walk on the coast, or jump in the crisp, clear waters, Taranaki has some stunning beaches that you have to see while you are in the area. Make sure that you at least stop by Back Beach and Oakura to take in the views and watch the sunset.

Other Sites

There are a lot of unique sites in the region, including the Te Rewa Bridge and the Forgotten World Highway. The bridge is a wonderous piece of architecture unlike anything that you have ever seen and the Forgotten World Highway is a beautiful scenic drive with plenty of places to stop for a meal or a snack, and take some photos.
