Coromandel is a beautiful little town on New Zealand’s North Island. It is nestled on the western edge of the Coromandel Peninsula. The reason that Coromandel is a go-to destination for adventurers throughout this area is that it truly has something for everyone. Whether you enjoy spending your time exploring the outdoors on the land or out in the water or you want to get absorbed in the culture or the historical sites of the town, there is something for every traveller in Coromandel. Rent a campervan and uncover the best of the north.

Here is our top list of things to do in Coromandel.

1) Drive the Creek Railway

One of the best and most unique features of the entire country of New Zealand is that it has beautiful drives, almost everywhere that you go. If you want to soak yourself in the beautiful landscape that is around you in Coromandel, you can enjoy the perfect fusion of art, engineering, and natural beauty as you drive this railway.

2) Thermal Hotsprings

Want something that is a little more stationary and relaxing? There are tons of great opportunities to kick your feet up and relax in the thermal hotsprings in the area. We would highly recommend the Miranda Hot Pools or The Lost Spring. If you want something a little more natural and interactive, you can even go to Hot Water Beach where you dig your own natural hot tub before you jump in it.

3) Take a Walk

There are so many gorgeous places that you can walk and enjoy the beautiful weather and the outdoors that Coromandel has to offer. Take the Coastal Walkway that runs from Fletcher Bay out to Stony Bay and get some stunning views of the coast.

If you want to eat along the way, we recommend taking the Homegrown Food Trail. You can take a stroll along the trail while sampling some of the finest, fresh-harvested local dishes and foods the area has to offer.

Take a stroll along New Chum beach. This gorgeous strip of coast has been nationally and internationally rated as one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world.

Looking for something a little more active? Mt. Paku is a fairly short walk with a really nice payoff. At the top, you get breathtaking views of Coromandel.
