New Zealand is an incredible place to visit. The small island nation offers all sorts of sightseeing opportunities, from national parks, white sandy beaches, to historical buildings. And, even though the country is small, there’s still plenty to see. We recommend you hire a motorhome in New Zealand, as this is a great way to experience a good portion of the country. Here are four of our top New Zealand destinations to visit while you’re on the road.
Tongariro National Park
This elder national park is one of the top New Zealand destinations, and for good reason. The surrounding area is stunning, containing a multitude of lakes, mountainous background, hot springs, and even volcanoes (which are active so be cautious of eruption hazards). The warm, aesthetic tone of the park will relax any visitor, and the park also has recreational activities such as hiking and water sports. Multiple campervan-friendly campgrounds are available, including Tongariro Holiday Park and Whakapapa Holiday Park. A great place to spend the day hiking and exploring but relaxing in the evening.
Located in the northern portion of New Zealand’s North Island, Auckland is truly a breathtaking spectacle. This major city is chock full of fun activities for the entire family, but not just within the city. Surrounding the city is a quaint landscape with trails, beaches and forests. Right on the edge of the city are two amazing boat harbours that feature some majestic vessels. With campgrounds available right outside the city, Auckland is a perfect place to visit.
This is an incredible spot, and some may even say one of the top New Zealand destinations. If you want to see turquoise water in person, then this is the place. You know, the kind you see floating around on Twitter and Instagram all the time? Here is your chance. The South Island of New Zealand is home to the Hokitika Gorge, displaying some of the most beautiful waters in the world. The area is easily accessible by motorhome and contains a variety of swimming and sightseeing locations along the way.
Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers
Not many glaciers around the world are easy to get to and see, but these are! These glaciers are also located in the South Island of New Zealand, adjacent to Westland Tai Poutini National Park. Not only are the glaciers amazing, but an array of other activities are available in the area, such as fishing and birdwatching.
The biggest thing to remember on your visit is to keep an open mind in terms of exploration. There is so much to see and do, not only in the areas mentioned above but in all of New Zealand. Enjoy your travels across the incredible island nation!
