If you prefer biking, take the Remutaka Cycle Trail which follows the historic rail trail. Enjoy the beauty of the Remutaka Forest Park by swimming under the waterfall, looking for wildlife and listening for the wild kiwi.

If you’d like to see more wildlife, visit the Staglands Wildlife Preserve. If you enjoy the beach, visit the towns of Days Bay and Eastbourne where you can also enjoy small shops, cafes, and art galleries. There is something for everyone in this part of Wellington.

Kapiti is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Come see the colourful birds at the sanctuary. Sit on the beach with a good book or just soak up the sun. Walk in Queen Elizabeth Park and get active at the Whereroa Farm recreation reserve. Explore the endless trails in the Taratarua Forest Park or go rafting with Captive Adventures. If you’d like a little more downtime, try golfing at the Paraparaumu and Waikanae Golf Clubs. For those car enthusiasts, go to the Southwards Car Museum. There is plenty of things to enjoy, especially when you hire a motorhome.

This is a great spot to enjoy shopping, the local culture, art and plenty of outdoor activities. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, go to the Adrenalin Forest where you will be able to try high ropes, Tarzan swings and flying foxes.

For something a little tamer, watch the birds at the Pauatahanui Inlet or go to the Aotea Lagoon where the kids will enjoy riding a model train, playing in the adventure fort or feeding the ducks. If you’d like to explore some of the history of the area, go to Battle Hill Farm Forest Park- the site of one of the last battles between the Maori and the early colonists. There are also several beaches where you can relax and enjoy the sun.

Making up one-fifth of the coastline are the waterways of Marlborough, which means this is the perfect place to set sail with a kayak or canoe. You can also swim with the dolphins and see other animals at the wildlife sanctuaries.
