Tim’s Top Places to Visit in Northland

Tim’s Top Places to Visit in Northland

Written by mighway

Tim recently had the experience of travelling to the Northland area in a Mighway motorhome. The Northland area is rich in New Zealand history and a great destination point for a day trip or an overnight visit. His first stop was the picture perfect area of Cape Reinga.

Cape Reinga

Travel time from my starting point in Auckland is approximately 6 hours (421.5 km) drive in the motorhome. The area is the point where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. A few moments should be taken to absorbed the peacefulness that is Cape Reinga.

5h & 40min drive from Auckland

Cape Reinga offers several adventures for you to enjoy. You can go on a nature cruise to explore the waterways leading up to the Pacific Ocean. Go on a guided tour of the area courtesy of a dune buggy riding experience. Learn about the rich history of the area while on a walking tour of the Cape Reinga lighthouse. Tim spent an afternoon on a boat cruise around the Bay of the Islands where some playful dolphins came along for the ride.

There are two campgrounds in the area that easily accommodate motorhomes. Spirits Bay Campground provides a picture perfect setting of the ocean on one side and the green forest on the other side. The Tapotupotu Campsite accommodates motorhomes and offers you a nearby lagoon perfect for swimming and kayaking adventures.

Te Paki Sand Dunes

In the middle of this oceanfront wonderland you’ll come across a mountain of sand unlike anything you’ve seen before. These sand dunes consist of 7 sq km of giant sand that sits at the point where the Te Paki stream meets the ocean. Starting in Auckland, you can reach this destination point in approximately five and a half hours (409.7 km) ride by motorhome.

Te Paki Sand Dunes activities listings include fishing and snorkeling trips in the crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is the ideal spot to spend an afternoon surfing the ocean waves. A popular activity that draws visitors to the area is sand boarding. It is like surfing, only instead of water there is sand. You will not forget sand surfing on the Te Paki Sand Dunes.

You can travel to the campgrounds in Cape Reinga or spend the night at the Rarawa Beach Campsite. You have access to over 90 miles of beachfront living right outside your doorstep. Spend time fishing, swimming or going on a hike through one of the nearby trails. Tim’s travelling adventure to this beautiful corner of the planet is not one he’ll will soon forget.

We encourage you to book your own motorhome at Mighway and travel to this location soon, you won’t be sorry.
