A Perfect Weekend In Yosemite National Park

Without Yosemite National Park there would not be a national park system. The park, established in 1890, was the first of its kind and now welcomes over 4 million visitors a year. With some of the best hiking trails and magnificent views, Yosemite is the place for some of the most memorable family vacation experiences. If you are in need of an amazing weekend getaway, Yosemite is the place.

What to do:

Yosemite has been described as a theme park in the middle of the great outdoors! A perfect spot to begin your weekend adventure is in Yosemite Valley. Covered in lush pine forest, the Valley is situated on an eight-mile glacial floor. Experience amazing views of El Capitan and Half Dome peaks. Continue through the park on one of the hundreds of hiking trails that traverse through wildflower strewn meadows or rise to behold majestic waterfalls such as Yosemite Falls. For those who are a bit more adventurous, ascend along some of the many climbing routes. For new climbers, the Yosemite Mountaineering School and Guide Service can educate all ages, genders and skill levels. End your day with a dip in the sparkling Merced River or take a trail ride. Nighttime brings a cultural experience at the Yosemite Theater where you can be entertained and educated.

Where to stay:

Lodging at the park can be as earthy or luxurious as you desire. Pitch a tent under the pine canopy at one the many campgrounds throughout the park. Historic Camp 4 is a great place to begin a climbing adventure on the granite walls, with expeditions originating from the camp. For a little more refined camping, settle in raised tents and cabins at Curry Village. And for the most refined accommodations the Ahwahnee Hotel offers elegant quarters fit for Queens and presidents who have resided there.

The Ahwahnee Hotel also offers sumptuous dinners and delectable cocktails. Enjoy delicious dishes such as burrata and figs, or rack of lamb. If your style is more uncomplicated, dine at the Yosemite Lodge for fare such as roast duck and rainbow trout. And for the do-it-yourselfers, grab a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer at the Yosemite Village campstore, and toast your meal in an open meadow under the stars!

Whether you just enjoy camping and beautiful vistas, or if you love to hike, climb or ride, the park offers amazing weekend. As Ansel Adams once was quoted on his many visits to the park, “Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space.”
