In a country with some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, it’s a tall order to be the most beautiful of them all. Milford Sound has that reputation and it lives up to it. Formed by glaciers millions of years ago, the scenery here is simply mind-blowing. Towering peaks line the fiord, powerful waterfalls cascade down the side of the mountains and the water is as blue as you’ve been told.

Get amongst it

You can stand in awe of this majestic location or you can get suit up and get out there. We recommend the latter. There are different ways to explore the Milford Sound depending on what you want. Kayaks and cruises are both available or you can take opt for the combo option with Go Orange and spend the morning on the water kayaking and the afternoon on the cruise. Who ever said you can’t have your cake and eat it?!

Advantages of Kayaking at Milford

Looking up at the enormous vertical cliffs from water level really makes you feel small. Sitting on the water in your kayak, you get to experience the Milford Sound in a truly unique way. It gives you a true feeling of the expanse of this World Heritage site. Mitre Peak will never look bigger and the power of the waterfalls becomes more apparent when you are so far below them. Sitting in your kayak you feel the vastness of the place – it’s one seriously humbling experience.

Choose to cruise

The cruise offers a totally different experience in the Milford Sound. With a higher vantage point, you see the sound in a different way. If you have been out kayaking in the morning, you very quickly realise how little of the Milford Sound you had explored. The cruise takes you all the way through the fiord until you reach the Tasman Sea. It will take you almost into Stirling Waterfall and you’ll see seals laying in the sun.

Go for it!

To truly experience Milford Sound, go for the combo option. Be engulfed by the sheer size of the mountains in the morning on your kayak. And sit back and relax in the afternoon and reach parts of the sound that it would take you hours to reach by kayak. Whichever way you choose to experience Milford Sound, one thing’s for sure, you will be awe-struck by this beautiful
