If you are travelling to Auckland, New Zealand for the World Master Games 2017 in April, and you plan to camp or use a motor home, you should book right away. With more than 25,000 participants coming from more than 100 countries, demand will be high for anything close to central Auckland.

Though there are hundreds of camping and motor-home sites throughout New Zealand, there are only a few near central Auckland. Please note that there are no local freedom camping grounds available during the games.

Where to stay close to town:

The closest dedicated campsites to the games in central Auckland are the Auckland North Shore Motels & Holiday Park and the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park. The Waka ama Marathon, Ocean Ski, Ocean Swim, and Surf Life Saving events will be within walking distance of these two parks. They’re also within walking distance of Takapuna’s city centre and only a 15-minute drive to downtown Auckland.

The Auckland North Shore Motels and Holiday Park has an indoor pool, barbeque grills and children’s play area. It offers both powered motorhome sites and tent sites. Another choice nearby is the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park’s beachfront accommodation offers campervan sites or tent sites and has a fully equipped kitchen.

Ellerslie Racecourse is also offering their services for motorhome parking from 18th April until the 3rd May, and are currently taking bookings. They are offering 350 non-powered sites for self-contained motorhomes only. They are centrally located – a 10 minute drive to downtown Auckland, and a 7 minute walk to the nearest train station – with lots to see and do nearby. Check out our blog post for more detailed information.

A little further out:

Stay close to the action in central Auckland in Orewa Beach Top 10 Holiday Park and Pinewoods Motor Park. They’re a little further away – about a 30-minute drive north up Route 1 from Central Auckland. However, these parks will be within 15 minutes of events like sailing, tennis and football. Add another 10 minutes south and you can watch softball, hockey, weightlifting and beach volleyball.

The Orewa park is close to a beautiful sandy beach and a stream where you can swim. Fishing and boating are available, and a mountain bike park is only five minutes away. Pinewoods Motor Park, which is located between Orewa and Red Beach, has tent and caravan sites, campervan pads and a playground. It also sits right on the beach.

If you’re planning to stay in a campground or use a motorhome, book as soon as possible to avoid disappointments.
